The Akuapim South Municipal Assembly held its National Thanksgiving Service at the Church of Pentecost and Aburi on 1st July 2026, to offer gratitude to God for His blessings upon the nation.
The programme, themed "Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Hope For" brought together key stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the clergy, heads of security agencies, heads of departments, Assembly staff, students, members of the public, and executives of the Akuapem South Local Council of Churches.
The presiding Elder of Church of Pentecost,FD Walker congregation, Aburi Benjamin Twumasi, urged participants to live responsibly in every aspect of their lives, emphasizing that they should not focus solely on personal wealth and success. He stressed that "Ghana does not only need wealthy people; it needs people of integrity and upright character".
Drawing inspiration from the biblical account of Nehemiah, he encouraged participants to emulate his exemplary leadership, commitment, and selfless service by contributing meaningfully to the development of the municipality.
He further called on all stakeholders to unite in addressing the numerous challenges confronting the municipality, stressing that collective action and shared responsibility are essential to achieving sustainable solutions across all sectors and promoting national development.
The Aburi Central Mosque Imam Abdulai Jibril prayed for peace and prosperity for the nation.
Speaking at the service, the Member of Parliament, Hon. Lawrencia Adwoa Dziwornu, commended the President for initiating the National Thanksgiving Day, describing it as a timely opportunity for Ghanaians to express gratitude to God for His continued blessings upon the nation.
Touching on the recent flooding incidents across parts of the country, she noted that the thanksgiving service was particularly significant, stressing that through prayer and God's mercy, the nation had been spared from even greater disasters.
She urged participants to reflect on the messages shared during the service and apply them in their daily lives by embracing discipline, responsibility, and good values to promote the development of the municipality and the nation.
In his remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Osae Offei, applauded the large turnout and addressed the issue of indiscipline among citizens. He remarked that, "The problem in Ghana is Ghana, and it is Ghanaians," emphasizing that national development begins with a change in attitude and behaviour. He explained that the Assembly remains committed to enforcing building regulations, particularly by ensuring that development permits are issued only for suitable locations that do not obstruct waterways or pose future environmental risks.
He noted that some communities in Aburi, especially those situated below the hills, remain vulnerable to flooding, making it essential for residents to adhere to planning regulations.
He added that if citizens embrace discipline and responsible living, Ghana can become a safer and better place for all. He further encouraged everyone to remain close to God in all their endeavours.
